New series of Conversations on Consent launches with discussion on believing women

A new series of Conversations on Consent video interviews has launched on the Faculty of Law’s YouTube channel.

Conversations on Consent features discussions on the philosophical issues surrounding sexual consent with leading global experts from academia, policymaking and legal practice. The new series begins with a wide-ranging interview with Georgi Gardiner, Associate Professor of Philosophy and GESS (Gender and Sexuality Studies) at Tulane University, Louisiana.

In conversation with the Faculty of Law’s Dr Kate Greasley, Professor Gardiner – an expert in the philosophy of truth – discusses believing women, “She said/He said” rape allegations, and the problem of undue doubt.

The videos are part of the Sexual Consent in the Post-#MeToo World: A Study in Philosophy and Law project led by Dr Greasley, Associate Professor of Law and Tutorial Fellow at Hertford College. Funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, the project aims to encourage greater nuance and complexity in the public discourse around sexual consent, and to generate creative solutions to the problems revealed by the #MeToo movement.

Future episodes in the new series of Conversations on Consent will include Professor Aya Gruber (USC) on feminism and carceralism, and Professor Robin West (Georgetown) on what has gone wrong with the ethics of consent.
