Price Media Law Moot Coach 2020

The Faculty of Law invites applications from postgraduates to coach Oxford’s team for the Price Media Law Moot Court Competition 2020/21. 

The Price moot is one of the largest and most prestigious mooting competitions in the world. Oxford’s team was the overall runner-up in the 2019/20 competition. The 2020/21 moot problem has already been published. It concerns the freedoms of expression and peaceful assembly, and takes the form of an appeal to a fictional Universal Court of Human Rights. The team is to prepare written submissions by 3 January 2021, and take part in the Northern European Regional Rounds in February 2021 and in the International Round in April 2021. All rounds of the competition will take place online. 

Oxford’s team will comprise of a maximum of 4 students. The coach will have the opportunity to be involved in the selection of the team. 

The coach will be paid a stipend of £814. The duties of the coach include, but are not limited to: (i) providing the team with general instruction on the basics of human rights law/ media law, research sources, and methods; (ii) providing general advice on memorial writing and oral advocacy techniques; (iii) organising practice moots; (iv) managing the moot budget; and (v) other organisational and administrative responsibilities for participation in the competition. 

The coach should ideally have experience in mooting and excellent organisational and communication skills. A passion for human rights law, and potentially an interest in issues surrounding media law and policy will be taken into account in the process of selection.
