Leverhulme Trust Research Fellowships

Apply for funding to complete a piece of research. Open to experienced researchers in all subject areas outside of medical research.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- hold a post in a UK institution of higher education, or in a museum, art gallery or comparable institution that will extend beyond the duration of the Fellowship
- be experienced researchers, particularly those prevented by routine duties from undertaking or completing a research programme
- be resident in the UK at the time of application
- be a permanent member of the UK scholarly community and able to demonstrate an established track record in their chosen area of research
Priority will be given to applicants whose teaching and administrative duties have significantly impacted their ability to undertake research in the three years prior to their application.
Value and Duration
The maximum value of a Fellowship is £70,000. Fellowships are tenable for between 3 and 24 months. Fellows are required to commit a minimum of 75% of their time to the Fellowship research project during their award period. Fellowships must be taken up between 1 June in the year the grant is awarded and 1 May the following year.

Applications will be submitted via the new Leverhulme Grant System, details of which will be available on the Leverhulme webpage for this opportunity shortly before the system opens.

Our deadline for notification of intention to apply is 10 September 2026. Applications should be submitted to Research Services by 29 October 2026. The funder deadline is 4pm 5 November 2026.
