Chief Justice of Australia visits the Law Faculty

The Chief Justice of Australia, the Hon. Robert French AC, visited the Oxford Law Faculty on 17 November 2015. At the invitation of Professor Adrian Zuckerman, Chief Justice French addressed the postgraduate civil procedure cohort on the role of the High Court of Australia, its constitutional and statutory jurisdiction and some of the practices and procedures it follows in discharging its functions. This was followed by a lively session of questions and answers.

In the afternoon, the Master of University College, Sir Ivor Crewe, welcomed Chief Justice and Mrs French as well as the Dean, Professor Anne Davies, and other Faculty members to lunch. The Australian postgraduate law students were delighted to have the opportunity to meet Chief Justice and Mrs French over afternoon tea at Christ Church, hosted by Dr Benjamin Spagnolo, who was one of several former High Court Associates (judicial assistants) present.
