Professor Chris Hodges was present at the launch in the House of Lords on 3rd February of the Report of Regulation of Property Agents, of which he was a member of the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government’s working party.

Chaired by Lord Best, since October 2018, the working group made up of industry and consumer experts, have examined the options available for raising standards across the property agent sector.

The working group has made recommendations on:

  • a model for an independent property-agent regulator, including how it will operate and how it will enforce compliance
  • a single, mandatory and legally-enforceable Code of Practice for property agents
  • a system of minimum entry requirements and continuing professional development for property agents
  • clarifying processes and charges for leaseholders
