Andreas Televantos and Joanna Bell awarded Peter Birks Prizes for Outstanding Legal Scholarship

Dr Andreas Televantos (Associate Professor and Fellow of Lincoln College) and Dr Joanna Bell (Associate Professor and Fellow of St Edmund Hall) have been awarded prizes for their recent book publications by the Society of Legal Scholars (SLS). The Peter Birks Prizes, for outstanding book length publication by early career scholars, are named to remember Professor Birks, who taught for most of his career at Oxford and who led the SLS as President, and this year were awarded at the Annual SLS Conference at Durham on 1 September 2021.

Andreas won first prize for his monograph Capitalism before Corporations: The Morality of Business Associations and the Roots of Commercial Equity and Law (Oxford University Press 2020).

Joanna won joint second prize for her book The Anatomy of Administrative Law (Hart Publishing 2020).

Another Oxford scholar, Dr Gabrielle Watson, was shortlisted for her book Respect and Criminal Justice (Oxford University Press).

The Faculty congratulates the prize winners, who give ample evidence of the energy and quality of legal scholarship at Oxford.
