Heather Roberts

Dr Heather Roberts is an Associate Professor at ANU Law School and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law. She is internationally recognised for her scholarship and teaching in judicial studies and legal and judicial biography, with particular interest in the construction of professional identity and diversity in the judiciary, judicial reasoning, and the distinctive role and function of the Chief Justice. Her current research traces the changing face of the Australian judiciary through its ceremonial and institutional practices, and the social, cultural and gendered dimensions of judicial character embedded in that history. As a member of the Program Advisory Committee of the National Judicial College of Australia, she advises on judicial education, including the implications of AI for judicial reasoning, and she is committed to supporting greater diversity in the profession, including by acting as an academic mentor to marginalised groups in the legal profession.
