BA: ODA Challenge-Oriented Research Grants 2024

The British Academy is inviting proposals on specific global challenges from researchers based in the UK, Brazil, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Malaysia, Philippines, South Africa, Turkey, Thailand, Vietnam and/or Least Developed Countries.

 

Scope

The Academy wishes to support diverse policy-relevant thinking related to the following themes:

The aim of this call is to provide opportunities for researchers based in the UK and other eligible countries to develop and/or deepen international research collaborations on internationally focused ODA-eligible research projects on specific global challenges. The Academy does not have any pre-determined ideas regarding the exact type of project, outputs, and dissemination of the research other than that it must be policy-relevant. 

 

Eligibility

The PI and co-applicants must be of postdoctoral or above status (or have equivalent research experience). For applications where the PI is based in a UK university, at least one co-applicant must be based in Brazil, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Malaysia, Philippines, South Africa, Turkey, Thailand, Vietnam and/or Least Developed Countries. For applications where the PI is based in an eligible country other than the UK, at least one co-applicant must be based in the UK.

The PI must spend a minimum of 0.2 FTE on the project.

Applicants are required to demonstrate that the proposal is ODA eligible, i.e. that the research has a primary objective which is directly and primarily relevant to the problems of developing countries.

 

Value and Duration

Awards of 18 months in duration and up to £200,000 (full economic cost) are available. Projects must begin at the end of June 2024.

Applications must be submitted online using the British Academy's Flexi-Grant® Grant Management System (GMS). The deadline for submissions and UK host organisation approval is 10 April 2024 (17:00 GMT)
