Blog Editor: Oxford Human Rights Hub Editorial Team

Closing date: 4 September 2016

Research Assistant: Oxford Human Rights Hub Editorial Team: Blog Editor

Prof. Sandy Fredman is looking for a suitable candidate to join the Oxford Human Rights Hub Editorial Team as Blog Editor. Since its launch in July 2012, the Blog has fast become a leading source of human rights news and opinion, featuring posts from leading judges, lawyers, academics and human rights activists from across the globe. It has also established a large readership and a strong social media following, with approximately 10,000 unique visitors to the Oxford Human Rights Hub website per month and over 8,000 followers on Twitter.

The blog editorial team is responsible for sourcing blog posts, editing content, contributing posts and marketing the blog.

Duration and hours

The work is to start as soon as possible and will run until 30th June 2017.

The hours will vary, but it is expected that you will work a maximum of 10 hours each month. Editors should be prepared to work during vacations, but do not need to be based in Oxford during this time.

Reporting

Editors report to Professor Sandy Fredman and supervised by the Oxford Human Rights Hub Managing Editor.

Requirements

 Candidates are required to have:

  • A passion for human rights law (students with a human rights law background currently working in related fields are also encouraged to apply);

  • An eye for global human rights news and developments;

  • Excellent writing and editing skills;

  • Experience using social media (or a willingness to learn);

  • Good administration and IT skills.

Previous blogging experience and established contacts with human rights organisations, lawyers, and academics outside of the UK will reflect favourably. Knowledge and experience in webpage development is highly desirable.

Eligibility

This post is open to current graduate research students and the hours are in line with the restrictions on working hours for students. Students in their first year of graduate research may not normally undertake work as a Research Assistant until they have passed their Qualifying Test (transfer of status).  Regrettably this position is not open to BCL/MJur and MLF students.

Rate of Pay

This will be paid at the standard research assistant rate of £14.01/hour plus holiday pay of £2.40 = total of £16.41/hour. **

Funding

This post is funded by the British Academy grant recently awarded to Prof. Sandy Fredman.
