The Academic Writing Workshop welcomes students of all years to take part in interactive writing exercises designed to strengthen academic writing skills. The event will feature a presentation and an editing session led by members of the senior editorial board, followed by a Q&A panel with distinguished guests who bring extensive experience in legal scholarship and publication.

This year, we are honoured to have Jordan English, an Associate Professor at Magdalen College, Oxford as one of our guest speakers. Jordan English is the author of Discharge of Contractual Obligations (Oxford University Press, 2025), winner of the 2025 SLS Peter Birks Prize for Outstanding Early Career Scholarship, and the co-author of the The Law of Tracing (Federation Press, 2021).

We are also delighted to be hosting Angelo Ryu, a DPhil candidate at St John’s College, Oxford. Angelo has published widely in leading legal journals, including “‘Is the Error of Fact Doctrine Based on a Mistake?’ [2024] Public Law 406” and “‘How Reasons Make Law’ (2024) 44 Oxford Journal of Legal Studies 133.”

They will be joined by William Cann, a Law finalist and Demy at Magdalen College. His article ““Having Regard” to intoxication in the Sexual Offences Act 2003 - an analysis of the mens rea in the Sexual Offences Act and the meaning of circumstances” was published in the Criminal Law Review last October.

We warmly invite all students interested in academic writing and publication to take this opportunity to learn from our distinguished guests and to enhance their confidence and skill as writers.
