Book Discussion: Europe Without Borders (EULDG and ESC)
Dr Isaac Stanley-Becker
Details
The EU Law Discussion Group and the European Studies Centre, St Antony's College, will host a discussion with Dr Isaac Stanley-Becker about his book Europe without Borders: A History (2025, Princeton University Press). The book explores the contested creation of free movement in Schengen, from treatymaking at European summits and disputes in international courts to the street protests of undocumented immigrants who claimed free movement as a human right.
Dr Stanley-Becker will present for 10–20 minutes. Professor Martin Conway (Professor of Contemporary European History, Oxford Faculty of History) and Professor Iyiola Solanke (Jacques Delors Professor of European Union Law, University of Oxford) will then provide comments, before opening the session up to questions and comments.
Dr Isaac Stanley-Becker is a staff writer at The Atlantic. He has reported from across Europe and the United States, including as a national security and investigative reporter at The Washington Post. He was part of two Post teams that won the Pulitzer Prize, most recently in 2024 for a series on the role of the AR-15 in American life. He holds a PhD in history from Oxford and is the author of Europe without Borders: A History.
