Join us for the online book launch of Hiemstra and Conlon’s new book ‘Immigration Detention Inc.’
‘Immigration Detention Inc.’ dissects the inner economical workings of immigration detention, 'a system governed by a capitalist logic’.
Drawing on over a decade of research and focusing on detention centres in New Jersey and New York, the authors reveal the inner workings of immigration detention, mapping public-private financial relationships at detention centres and tracing how contracts for food, medical care, and in-facility stores are fought over for financial gain.
In this online book launch, Ibrahim Ince (University of Oxford) will introduce the book launch series and the work of Border Criminologies.
The authors will then present their book, followed by a generative discussion with Prof Ruben Andersson (University of Oxford), with a specialisation on the economy of migration and borders, and a Q&A session with the audience.
