Global ARTiculations: Creative explorations of Crime, Deviance, Power and Control

Join us for the first in a series of events exhibiting and discussing art from across the globe that addresses criminological questions of power, violence, borders, crime and control.

On October 21 we begin with an afternoon launch of a new photo exhibit space the Centre for Criminology followed by a discussion with the Photographer. We continue with an evening film screening at Oxford's Ultimate Picture palace, followed by Q&A with the filmmaker.

The Centre for Criminology's Global Crime and Justice Hub, together with Border Criminologies, invites diverse critical perspectives to explore criminological debates through alternative mediums of art and expression.

We welcome all to join us:

15:30 - Exhibit Launch at the Centre for Criminology, St Cross Building, St Cross Road, OX13UL.

16:00 - Presentation & Discussion of the exhibition UPROOTED: Land, Borders, and Belonging across the Near Middle East with photographer Hüseyin Ovayolu at the Centre for Criminology seminar room.

18:00 - Film Screenings: DIGITAL DETENTION: For-Profit Surveillance of Migrants in the USA (53') with film director Carolina Sánchez Boe and BORDR (6') with Emma Brierley and Mary Bosworth, followed by Q&A with the film makers, at the Ultimate Picture Palace, Cowley Road, OX4 1BN. Film tickets cost £8 per ticket and can be purchased at the door, or on the UPP website. Doors open at 17:45.
