Carmen's presentation will address the evolution that civil liability has undergone from codification in 1855 to the present day. She will review the function and basis on which the duty to compensate damage is founded, as well as the different types of damage that can be repaired.

The analysis will be done from a comparative perspective, aiming to show Chilean solutions in contrast to those accepted in European systems that also belong to the Romano-Germanic tradition.
