New Director of the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights announced

The Law Faculty is delighted to announce the appointment of Rachel Murray as the new Director of the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights. Rachel joins us from the University of Bristol where she is Professor of International Human Rights Law. She will take up her post on 1 October 2025.
Rachel has had a distinguished career as a legal practitioner, and in research. She is co-founder and Director of the Bristol University Human Rights Implementation Centre. Her research focuses on the African human rights system, implementation of human rights decisions, monitoring places of detention and torture prevention, among other areas, and she has written influentially in all these fields. She has a very deep commitment to practical engagement with human rights law in the world, evidenced in her founding and leading the Bristol University Human Rights Clinic and a wide-ranging portfolio of consultancy and engagement activities with human rights stakeholders including governments, NHRIs and international organisations.
The Institute has established itself as a leading human rights research centre under the visionary direction of Professor Kate O’Regan who steps down at the end of September. We look forward to welcoming Rachel to Oxford and to watching the Institute flourish during her tenure.
