New Director for the Centre for Socio-Legal Studies

Fernanda Pirie has recently taken on the position of Director of the Centre. She follows Professor Linda Mulcahy, who is taking a year of well-deserved sabbatical. Fernanda is no stranger to the Centre, having joined in 2005, and served a previous term as Director. She is Professor of the Anthropology of Law.

Fernanda says:

“The Centre is in excellent shape after a highly successful six years under the leadership of Professor Mulcahy. We have recently made two senior appointments, recruited a number of post-doctoral researchers, and accepted a growing number of students. Our research projects are varied, continually expanding the frontiers of Socio-Legal Studies, and many attract substantial external funding. My aim is to ensure that the Centre continues to provide a welcoming and supportive environment for all our researchers and enhances the objectives and activities of the Faculty.”

Agnieszka Kubal now steps into the role of Deputy Director. The whole senior team, comprising Bettina Lange, Agnieszka Kubal, and Nicole Stremlau, ably supported by Centre Administrator Nikki Macmichael, look forward to working with Fernanda to build on the Centre’s achievements and continue its development as a leader in the field.
