The University of Oxford has finished as runners-up in the Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer Competition Law Moot, hosted by King's College London in June 2026.

The Oxford Law Faculty was represented by Yvette Young (BA Jurisprudence, Lady Margaret Hall), Sum Lau (Visiting Student, The University of Hong Kong, St Catherine's College), and Syed Adil (MSc in Taxation, Lady Margaret Hall). This was the second time that a team from the Oxford Law Faculty has qualified for the oral rounds, the first being in 2021.

The team qualified for the oral rounds on the strength of their written memoranda, as one of only 12 teams selected from 45 global submissions, and the only team from the United Kingdom to do so. Yvette, Sum, and Syed then progressed through the preliminary rounds, becoming one of only two teams to win both preliminary rounds (against NALSAR University of Law (India) and Maastricht University (Netherlands)).

The team went on to win the Quarter-Final against the National University of Singapore and the Semi-Final against Université Paris-Panthéon-Assas, reaching the Final. In the Final, Yvette and Syed had the opportunity to moot before a distinguished panel of judges, including The Right Hon Lady Rose of Colmworth, Justice of the UK Supreme Court.

Their runner-up position marked the first time that a team from the University of Oxford has reached the Final of the competition. The team recorded the joint-highest number of wins overall, winning four of their five individual rounds. Sum also received an Honourable Mention for Best Advocate for her advocacy across the rounds of the competition.

The team and Law Faculty are very grateful to the professors, lecturers, and DPhil Candidates who judged the team's practice rounds, and for their invaluable guidance and support.
