Professor John Finnis is appointed a CBE for services to Legal Scholarship

Professor John Finnis, Professor of Law and Legal Philosophy Emeritus, has been appointed a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) for services to Legal Scholarship.

Emeritus since 2010, Professor Finnis teaches at the Law Faculty occasionally in jurisprudence and political theory. He was Professor of Law & Legal Philosophy from 1989 to 2010, and a law tutor at University College since 1966 to 2010. He is also an Honorary Fellow of University College, where he studied (as a Rhodes Scholar for South Australia) for the D.Phil. 1962-5. In addition to teaching law overseas in Berkeley, California, the University of Adelaide, the University of Malawi and Boston College, Professor Finnis has advised a number of Australian governments on federal-State and UK-Australia constitutional relations and, at the English Bar, argued appeals in the Divisional Court and the Court of Appeal.
