United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Visits The Bonavero Institute
The Bonavero Institute of Human Rights was honoured to welcome Dr Volker Türk, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, and members of his team for an official visit on 3 June 2025.
Dr Türk was in Oxford to take part in the Right Here, Right Now Global Climate Summit 2025, hosted by the University of Oxford from 2 to 8 June. As part of his engagement in the Summit, the High Commissioner visited the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights to meet with its researchers.
The visit included a thoughtful exchange between representatives from the Bonavero Institute and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) on the pressing challenges currently facing the human rights movement, including the intersection of climate change and human rights, the shrinking space for civil society, and risks posed by new technologies to human rights protections.
The visit underscored the importance of bridging academic research with policy and practice to address global human rights concerns and how the High Commissioner’s office can build lasting partnerships with human rights research institutes like Bonavero to support the protection of human rights internationally and domestically.
The Bonavero Institute looks forward to deepening its engagement with the OHCHR and contributing to global efforts to uphold and advance human rights.
