ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Dr Mohammad Shahabuddin teaches and researches in international law at Birmingham University Law School with special focus on history and theory of international law, ethnicity and nationalism, and human rights. He is the author of Ethnicity and International Law: Histories, Politics and Practices (Cambridge University Press, 2016). With a Leverhulme Trust Research Fellowship (2018-2020), he is currently working on a new monograph: Minorities and the Making of Postcolonial States in International Law (Cambridge University Press, 2021).
Prior to joining Birmingham, he was a Lecturer in Law at Keele University, a Visiting Professor of International Law at Yokohama National University, and the founding chair of the Department of Law and Justice at Jahangirnagar University. He is a Faculty Member for Harvard Law School’s Institute for Global Law and Policy (IGLP) Workshop since 2013. Shahab completed his PhD in law at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London.
