What are the social, legal, ethical and political questions arising from how prisons treat their most vulnerable and high risk prisoners? The vast majority of the world’s 11 million prisoners cannot be described as ‘dangerous’, but a minority pose serious risks to themselves, other prisoners, staff, or the wider community. How should prisons respond to those risks? This colloquium brings a cross-disciplinary perspective to a subject usually dominated by criminal justice and law reform strategies.
