To conduct a feasibility study for the application of data management, artificial intelligence and associated technologies to support the work of actors in affordable justice. We do not want to be a solution in search of a problem. This feasibility study aims to address several unknowns within the legal ecosystem in regards to technology and its use. A key aim is to map out the existing entities, systems and information as well as the currently utilised technology and processes. Our hypothesis is that there is a technical-socio disconnect within this space; and, that the abrupt integration of various technological solutions may have little to no benefit on the practical application of affordable justice. Legal, especially in affordable justice, is predominantly a person-to-person endeavour. Any future solutions that aim to consolidate the use of technology into this system must take into account, the human factors. Etic Lab (https://eticlab.co.uk) is a research and design consultancy operating at the forefront of the digital technologies that are transforming our culture. We conduct research on behalf of clients in the academic and corporate sectors prototyping and developing custom applications to demonstrate and understand the potential of emerging technologies.
