Professor Boudewijn Sirks, who has held the Regius Professorship since 2006, delivered his Valedictory Lecture in the Gulbenkian Theatre on 4 July, on ‘Civil Law and Common Law’. At the conclusion of the lecture, four of the editors of a festschrift for Professor Sirks presented him with the volume of essays in his honour: Inter cives necnon peregrinos: Essays in honour of Boudewijn Sirks (2014), edited by J-P Coriat, Roberto Fiori, Jan Hallebeek, Ernest Metzger, Martin Schermaier. To complete the evening on an extraordinary high note, Her Excellency Laetitia van den Assum, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Court of St James, announced that the King of the Netherlands has made Professor Sirks a knight in the ''Orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw'' (Order of the Netherlands Lion). Ms van den Assum presented Professor Sirks with the decoration of the Order.
