In tandem with the Oxford Asia Alumni weekend, Oxford Law held an evening of networking, hosted by Clifford Chance and their Senior Counsel, Harpreet Singh on 24 March. Alumni from across Asia were able to join Professor Anne Davies for her update on the Law Faculty and current developments, such as the success of the Oxford Law Business Blog in its first year and the proposed part-time DPhil in Law.

The following day as part of the panel discussions of the formal Oxford Asia Alumni weekend, Professor Adrian Brigs QC (Hon) and Professor Mindy Chen-Wishart addressed 'Oxford Law: Looking towards Asia'. Professor Briggs addressed the contributions of the Law Faculty’s working to help the universities of Yangon get back on their feet after decades of difficulty, in particular by making teaching visits and writing books which will allow Myanmar law to be taught and understood in a way which is fit for the new age in which the country finds itself.

Professor Chen-Wishart spoke of her six-book project published by the Oxford University Press on the contract laws of 12 Asian jurisdictions, including China, Japan, India and Korea. Oxford’s expertise on European contract law is well established. Closing the gap of knowledge in the 'West' about the contract laws of Asia is well overdue. Photos are available on our Flickr page.
