Oxford Martin School funding call – Exploring the Impact of Generative AI
Notify Faculty of intention to apply by: 15th December 2025
Funder Expressions of Interest deadline: 5pm 19th January 2026
In addition to its regular annual funding round, the Oxford Martin School has for the 2025-2026 round announced the launch of an additional extraordinary new funding call for a £1 million solutions-focused research programme to explore the impact and development and widespread use of generative AI. They are seeking ambitious, bold, high-reward ideas that would not typically be funded through standard routes and that could deliver a transformative real-world impact for current and future generations.
The funding for the successful Oxford Martin School programme will be equally provided by the Oxford Martin School and OpenAI. This is part of the University of Oxford-wide collaboration with OpenAI to advance research and education, supported by the NextGenAI initiative. In addition to the £1 million funding, the programme will have access to API credits for OpenAI’s API and to compute funding to support research on AI models.
The funder deadline for Expressions of Interest (EoIs) for this call is 5 pm on Monday 19th January 2026. EoIs should be submitted to Kanwal.baluch@oxfordmartin.ox.ac.uk). Applicants are encouraged to get in touch to explore proposal ideas by emailing jean-charles.buffet@oxfordmartin.ox.ac.uk.
The Faculty of Law requests notification of intention to submit an EOI by Monday 15th December 2025 at the latest, with a first draft of an EOI by Monday 5th January 2026. Notifications should be submitted to research@law.ox.ac.uk.
