Biography

Alexandra Evans is a Departmental Lecturer in Taxation Law. Her research centres around: matters relating to the taxation of income and capital gains derived through the trust relationship, often using comparative techniques; tax policy; and pedagogy for law.

Alex currently teaches tax on the BCL, in the MSc in Taxation and select topics in the undergraduate tax tutorial.

Before joining Oxford in 2025, Alex was a Fellow at LSE Law School and, prior to that, a Senior Lecturer at UNSW in Sydney. While at UNSW, she was the associate editor and then a co-editor of the Australian interdisciplinary tax journal, eJournal of Tax Research.

Alex holds an LLB, LLM, and PhD from The University of Sydney, and she completed a doctoral exchange at Harvard Law School. She was a visiting scholar at the Law School, The University of Washington, Seattle.

Alex’s work has been published in leading Australian journals, and she contributed to two tax reform projects as an affiliate of the Tax and Transfer Policy Institute at The Australian National University.

She has received several awards, most recently a teaching award from LSE Law School.

Prior to entering academia, Alex practised in the Tax and Revenue group at Ashurst in Sydney for nearly 5 years.
