Émilie Weidl

DPhil Law

Biography

Émilie Weidl holds an Honour's Degree in Political Science from the University of Windsor, a dual Bachelor of Civil Law and Juris Doctor from the University of McGill, and an MPhil (distinction) from Wolfson College at the University of Oxford. She is currently a DPhil Candidate at Lady Margaret Hall, under the supervision of Barbara Havelková.

Her MPhil research analysed the influence of regional gender stereotypes on Russia's submissions to the European Court of Human Rights in familal legal disputes. With her DPhil project, she plans to apply a similar analysis to domestic cases in Russia dealing with gender-based violence, which will begin to fill the large research gap existing on the implementation of CEDAW in the country.

Outisde of her studies, Émilie volunteers on the leadership team of the Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention and Human Security, where she regularly drafts and publishes statements related to gender and queer issues.
