Haiyi Yu

Haiyi Yu is a PhD candidate at Renmin University of China Law School. His research interests lie in environmental law and natural resources law, with a particular focus on the legal relationships between people and nature. His current research examines environmental justice in China’s ecological conservation compensation regime and the protection of the rights and interests of local communities in protected areas. He holds an LL.B. and an LL.M. from Sun Yat-sen University and previously interned as a judicial assistant at the Supreme People’s Court of China. His wider research interests include case-based approaches to environmental law, environmental law codification, the effectiveness of China’s Ecological and Environmental Code, and the implementation of international environmental obligations in Chinese law. During his time at the Centre for Socio-Legal Studies, he will further develop his research in environmental law through comparative and interdisciplinary approaches.
