Kaya Mercer

MPhil Law

Biography

Kaya is an MPhil candidate in Law at the Centre for Criminology, researching pathways to death penalty abolition. 

She holds an MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Oxford where she researched the symbolic power of the death penalty. She also holds an MSc in Human Rights from the London School of Economics where she researched life imprisonment without parole as a violation of human rights. She completed her Bachelor of Arts and Sciences (BASc) at University College London where she concentrated on psychology, anthropology, and crime science. 

Research Interests

Death penalty, abolitionist de facto (ADF) states, prisons, life sentences, human rights.
