Leonie Felicitas Jegen
Biography
Leonie Felicitas Jegen is a doctoral researcher at the University of Amsterdam and ALMA Fellow at the Arnold Bergsträsser Institut, University of Freiburg. Her research lies at the intersection of International Political Sociology, Critical Security Studies, and Migration Studies, and focuses on externalization of EU migration control in West Africa. In her doctoral thesis she empirically focuses on Euro-Senegalese counter migrant smuggling borderwork. Conceptually, She examines the reproduction of coloniality and trace processes of epistemic hierarchization, normalization of extractive violence, and reproduction of a globally racialized mobility regime in borderwork. Her work has been published in academic journals, including International Political Sociology, Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, Geoforum, and The South African Journal of International Affairs, as well as in edited volumes published by Bristol University Press and Routledge. Additionally, she is the author of various policy briefs and reports.
