Biography

Born in Guatemala and raised between Mexico, the United States, and France, Maria Cecilia recently completed Oxford's MSc in Migration Studies.

During her time at Oxford, Maria Cecilia has supported Border Criminiologies as a research and communications intern. Additionally, Maria Cecilia served as a legal asisstant for the Oxford Bonavero Institute for Human Rights and Turpin & Miller LLP. She was also the professional coordinator for the Migration Studies program, organising events with organisations such as Human Rights Watch, Refugees International, and USA for UNHCR.

Passionate about human rights, immigration issues, and culture, Maria Cecilia recently completed her dissertation titled "Beyond the Law: Artistic Protest and the Pursuit for Immigrant Justice Against ICE" and looks forward to supporting immigrant communities back home in California and internationally.
