Omri Ben-Shahar

Omri Ben-Shahar is the Leo & Eileen Herzel Distinguished Service Professor at the University of Chicago Law School, and the Kearny Director of the Coase-Sandor Institute for Law and Economics.

Ben-Shahar writes and teaches in the areas of contract law, consumer law, law and technology, insurance law, trademark law, food law, and law-and-economics.

Prior to joining the University of Chicago in 2008, Ben-Shahar was the Kirkland & Ellis Professor of Law and Economics at the University of Michigan (1998-2008), and an assistant professor of economics and law at Tel-Aviv University (1995-1998).

Ben-Shahar is author of "Fear of Data: How Privacy Panic Led Tech Regulation Astray—and How to Fix It" (Forthcoming, Harvard University Press). He is also the co-author of "Personalized Law: Different Rules for Different People" (with Ariel Porat, Oxford University Press, 2021), and "More Than You Wanted To Know: The Failure of Mandated Disclosure" (with Carl Schneider, Princeton Press 2014).

Ben-Shahar served as a Reporter for the American Law Institute's Restatement of the Law, Consumer Contracts (2012-2023, with Oren Bar-Gill and Florencia Marotta-Wurgler). For years, he wrote a regular column for Forbes.
