Raquel has been a Senior Lecturer within the Faculty of Education and Psychology at the Catholic University of Portugal since 2007 and Deputy-Director of this same Faculty since 2009. She is currently developing research about gender, migration and detention and is completing fieldwork in a Temporary Detention Centre for illegal immigrants in Portugal. Over the last 10 years she has developed research projects about gender, crime and imprisonment. She has published articles and book chapters about the life trajectories of women in prison and has also published Vidas Raras de Mulheres Comuns, a book about “life pathways, meanings of crime and identity construction in young female offenders.” In addition to research, Raquel also teaches Criminology and Qualitative Research Methods.
