Biography

Raquel has been a Senior Lecturer within the Faculty of Education and Psychology at Universidade Catolica Portuguesa since 2014 and Coordinator of the Research Centre for Human Development at the same University since 2016. She is currently developing a research project on gender, migration and detention and is completing fieldwork in prisons as well as in a Temporary Detention Centre for irregular immigrants in Portugal. Over the past 10 years she has has worked on gender, crime and imprisonment. She has published articles and book chapters about the life trajectories of women in prison and has also published Vidas Raras de Mulheres Comuns, a book about 'life pathways, meanings of crime and identity construction in young female offenders.' Raquel teaches Criminology and Qualitative Research Methods.
