DPRU and DPP Directors present at UN General Assembly event

Against the Death Penalty', DPRU Director Professor Hoyle and Lord Jabbar of the DPRU’s partner organisation The Death Penalty Project (DPP) presented on the death penalty at the UN in New York, at an event during the 81st session of the General Assembly.

The event, ‘Success stories: Implementing a moratorium on the use of the death penalty – Good practices and experiences from across regions’, was organised by the Inter-Regional Task Force for a Moratorium on the Use of the Death Penalty, a coalition of over 40 abolitionist states currently led by Mexico and Switzerland.

Following contributions from the Ambassadors of Mongolia, Lebanon and Sierra Leone, all of which have achieved abolition of the death penalty in recent years following on from their suspension of executions, Carolyn and Parvais presented on their research and shared their experiences of abolition and progressive restriction of capital punishment worldwide.
