Cara Hunter

Cara is a Leverhulme Trust Postdoctoral Fellow within the Centre for Criminology. Her current research intersects the sociology of nations and the sociology of punishment, exploring how visions of nation and national identity shape penal struggles in contemporary England, Scotland, and Wales. This builds on and expands her ESRC-funded PhD research at the University of Edinburgh, which looked at connections between nation-building and efforts to reduce Scotland’s use of imprisonment post-devolution. 

Cara has taught across a range of criminological and sociological courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels including around issues of global crime and (in)justice, the sociology of food and food systems, and research methods.
