Biography

Dr. Deep Chand is a Walter Benjamin Postdoctoral Fellow at the Centre for Criminology, Faculty of Law, University of Oxford. His project focuses on policing and belonging in India. He recently completed the Postdoctoral Global Encounters Fellowship (April 2024–September 2025) at the College of Fellows and the Institute of Sociology at the University of Tübingen, Germany. Chand received his doctoral degree in Sociology (magna cum laude) from Goethe University Frankfurt, Germany. He holds both a Master of Arts (M.A.) and a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in Social Sciences from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, India. He earned his Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Chemistry and Mathematics from Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University, Ayodhya, India.

Political sociology; criminology; policing; state; law; citizenship and belonging; ethnomethodology; ethnography.
