Leander Nowack
Biography
Leander Nowack is a Berlin-based architectural researcher and Fellow of the Berlin University Alliance. At the Technische Universität Berlin, he leads the interdisciplinary research initiative “Mapping Governmental Architecture”, which brings together students, NGOs and researchers to investigate European border regimes through fieldwork and collaborative analysis. He employs participatory methods and a spatial lens, with particular attention to how built environments can reinforce or challenge power monopolies.
He recently edited the open-access volume Territorial Control: Case Studies on European Borders, examining how border infrastructures, surveillance systems and spatial design actively shape and enforce political authority. Alongside his academic research, he is involved in a cooperative architectural practice and collaborates with civil society initiatives supporting people on the move.
He studied architecture at the Universität der Künste Berlin.
