In Pursuit of the Internal Market Ideal – A symposium in honour of Professor Stephen Weatherill

Last week (Monday 18 March), Faculty members attended ‘In Pursuit of the Internal Market Ideal – A symposium in honour of Professor Stephen Weatherill’ to celebrate Stephen’s retirement.

Stephen Weatherill, Emeritus Jacques Delors Professor of European Law, and Fellow of Somerville College has been a professor at the University since 1998. Although he is formally retired, he remains active in studying European Union Law.

The event was chaired by Dorota Leczykiewicz Associate Professor of Law and an Officer Fellow of St Peter’s College, Sanja Bogojeviv, Fellow and Professor of Law at Lady Margaret Hall, and Ariel Ezrachi, Slaughter and May Professor of Competition Law and a Fellow of Pembroke College. The day was divided into 3 speaker panels: Internal Market & Free Movement, Institutions of the Internal Market and Competition, and Consumer Protection & Sport.

The speakers were later invited to an evening dinner with Stephen giving a farewell speech. In honour of Stephen’s retirement, a collection has been published ‘The Internal Market Ideal: Essays in Honour of Stephen Weatherill’, available to read now.

The Faculty would like to thank Stephen for dedicating many years to teaching at the University and wish him all the best with his future endeavours.
